
By the time Richard was 9, he knew he wanted to be a painter, He studied art in high school and at Eastern Illinois University. From there he went to the American Academy of Art in Chicago and studied figure drawing. After college Richard went to work as a graphic designer and a commercial artist. During this time he sold paintings at several large art fairs and did many commissions. In 1989 he was commissioned by the National Football League to paint for the Super Bowl. That led to commissions from the Kentucky Derby, Major League Baseball and resorts across the country. In 1996, Richard was the official artist for the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
