Darryl Vlassakís paintings have a near photographic quality. They are impeccably detailed, bordering on super realism. Vlassak was born in Chicago and raised in Woodridge, Illinois. As a child, two things that fascinated him were sports and drawing. At the age of 12, he brought his two loves together for the first time when he drew a portrait of White Sox home run hitter Richie Allen. He mailed it to the White Sox, and it came back to him with Allenís autograph. He says that one of the secrets to his captivating portraits is choosing subject matter he enjoys, which he says is easy because he is a sport fanatic.
